Over the past few decades, the ways in which we talk about people with disabilities has changed dramatically. Toronto woman Ing Wong-Ward says there’s a long way to go. As we gear up for the Paralympic games, she speaks about why journalists and the public should avoid “inspiration porn.”

Facing terminal cancer Ing who has lived her 40+ years in a wheelchair discusses how being disabled and performing normal tasks such as motherhood does not make her inspirational. She does believe that those who have picked themselves up an made such achievements are great stories of hope.

Knowing what she is facing and fighting for people with a disability is also inspirational.
